Midsomer Murders (spoiler if you havnt seen it yet!!)
Anyone watch Midsomer last night?
At the end, Barnaby told the young couple who wanted to get married - "go ahead, you are not closely related". How can that be then if their mothers were sisters and mans father was a brother ?? What exactly is their relationship then?

Whilst I would disagree with the new DCI Barnaby’s contention that the two were not “closely related” first-cousin marriage is not illegal in the UK. About 1% of marriages overall are cousin marriages, but this rises to more than 50% amongst some of the UK’s Asian population, most notably those of Pakistani origin where I believe the incidence is about 60%.

Actually, Francis, I think you're correct and I'm completely wrong. (I knew I should not have had that last glass of Shiraz!).
Of course, had I been compos mentis I should have realised that the daughter and her step-mother were not too fond of each other and that's sometimes (though not always) a clue!
Apologies.
