a children's play
6 Answers
I have a photograph of my father in a school play in the mid 1930s. Their costumes include a lion, a queen (mostly wearing white), a witch, a jester and either a king or soldier wearing a helmet. Other plays put on were fiction or fairy stories. Can anyone assist what play this might be? (The Lion the witch and the wardrobe wasn't written until 1950)

The Queen could be Titania, queen of the fairies and the lion could be Snug, the joiner, who takes this role in the 'play within a play' which is performed for the benefit of the King. Admittedly we're still left with a witch and a jester but these could be peripheral figures depicted among the various entertainments presented to the king.
