Look for wireless properties in system tray .. open and find the list of connections.
Delete them all. Reboot and try connecting again with correct pass (from router or it's settings)
Any of the new Netgears should be fine .. get one to latest speed standard with spare ethernet and USB sockets for some upradeability.
I doubt your old router has gone wrong tho : )
