Creatures quiz Thursday May 5th 2011

I am doing a most interesting quiz and have come across a few stumbling blocks which I would appreciate help with. The clues are cryptic and all the answers contain the name of a creature. For example: A goon (5.8.)-------Spike Milligan. ..... "pike".
10: Short-legged white dog (8.7.).
14: Mentioned on the shipping forecast (6.4.).
16: Composed by Schubert (5.7.).
18: Obvious (2.5.2.1.9.).
20: A seaweed (12).
There are others which I feel I have the correct answer but can't see a creature in them:
3: Making a special effort to please (7.4.9.). I thought of, "Bending over backwards"; "Leaning over backwards"; "Falling over backwards" which has "ling"(a fish) in it but I already have that word elsewhere in the quiz.in 21: An Indian tea (10)-- "Darjeeling" .
30: C.P.S.(5.11.7.) which surely must be "Crown Prosecution Service" but where's the creature? A "rose" is a flower!
37: Nacre (6.2.5.) which again, must be "Mother of Pearl" but where's the creature? Surely one can't call a "pear" a creature.
Any help would be most welcome.
