Hi. Can anyone help please? Just arrived in Florida and can receive emails without problem but cannot send. I have a Samsung netbook operating Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail with a Virgin email account. I am sure that will be something in settings that I will need to change but everything that I have tried has failed.

Help please anyone

Switch on SMTP authentication in the account settings. you can use the same details as the POP or IMAP authentication.

Thanks Chuck

I have tried that and it does not work. My incoming mail is POP3 pop.virgin.net which works fine. My outgoing mail is SMTP which is smtp.virgin.net which will not connect and send. I have tried checking the server requires authentiification box and also tried changing the smtp.virgin.net to pop.virgin.net but still with no success. Any other ideas?

Really grateful

Jayne
Should work unless either virgin block connections from outside the UK (unlikely) or the connection you are using routes all SMTP connections to their server (more likely)

Just use the web mail to send mails...

Do you have a virginmedia.com email address, if so, your smtp should be smtp.virginmedia.com, authentication should be on and it should be using port 465 but as Chuck says, since you're only on holiday it's probably easiest to just use the webmail.

Many thanks everyone. I will try webmail again as it was down for maintenance last time I tried.
