Computer "Turn off"
I may be imagining this but I feel that at one time clicking turn off actually closed the computer down. Now I have a box "End program-hpqtro08 exe -followed by "not responding" "end now?" which necessitates another click -this is no big problem but is there a solution?

What's happening is that an executable file running in the background of your PC is preventing windows from shutting down as normal. "hpqtra08.exe" is installed alongside the drivers for Hewlett Packard Imaging devices and installs an easy-to-use traybar icon for quick access to diagnostics. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
Try this:
1. click on start menu
2. click on run or type in where it says "search programs and files"
3. type "msconfig.exe" hit enter
4. when the window pops up click on the "startup tab"
5. find the "hpqtro08 exe" entry in the list and make sure its little tick box is NOT ticked.
6. now click Apply and then OK
7. when prompted to restart your pc do so.
Once its loaded back up shut it down again and see if the error still occurs.

hpqtro08.exe is the HP status monitor for HP printers in the toolbar by the clock. my fist suggestion would be, if you don't use it just disable it, it's not an essential thing to have running, it just gives you slightly quicker access to the HP tools.
If you do use it then I'd go for getting the latest software from the HP site for your printer, remove the current software and install the new version. If that still doesn't sort it then it's possible to increase the time the system will wait for the program to shutdown before giving the error.
