whats best way of getting back into jogging.
10 Answers
i admit ive went downhill in the last year and havent been out jogging or running in gym in that time, what is the best way to get back into it, i need to build my stamina up, its hard to get back into it after all that time, i used to run 6 mile runs 4-5 times a week before. should i start by doing say 10 minutes run, walk 4-5 minutes get my breath back then do another 10 mmins and so forth ? or should i be doing short fast runs to build stamina ?
thanks

But you've got a good past record, haven't you. The sort of interval training (run/walk/run/walk) that you were doing before is ideal.
6 miles was quite a long way. Some people's target for the year is to "do a 10km" ... and you were doing about that several times a week. Good you ... !
Make sure you have some good music on you iPod, if you have one. Keep a separate Playlist of "jogging tracks".
And ... if you can stretch to buying yourself a little treat ...
I've got a Garmin Forerunner 205. It's one of those GPS things for runners. It's a great motivator, because you can see how far you've run, what your pace has been like, etc, and then you can download the results on to your computer, and see yourself improving.
Like all technology, they started off being really expensive, and now you can get a Garmin 205 on Amazon for about £80. I know that's a bit of an outlay, but I love mine. And it shows on the printout if you've been lazy, and not been out for a while (but no cheating, and taking your GPS out in the car with you, LOL).
And hey ... look at the weather ... this is the best time of year to get back into it ...
You have the summer ahead of you !!
Go do it ... !!!!!!!

johnk ...
The GPS would certainly work on a bike (although it would think that you'd done one heck of a run!!!)
I wonder if the tolerances might be a bit low, though?
There are GPSs specifically for bikes ... like the Garmin Edge range. They come with handlebar mounts, which might be better. They have a bigger display, so you can see it while you're riding. A wrist mounted GPS might not be easy to keep looking at when you're cycling. Especially if (like me) you occasionally come off your bike and end up in hospital.
Would it work on a boat? I'm not sure. I suppose so. The satellite system can still track your position on the globe, even when you're on water. But, again ... I would think there are GPS systems specifically for that purpose.

We do run awaaaaay .... (but not in the Monty Python sense) ...
... and then we run back again.
But you're right about the "looking good in front of people" bit.
We all do that.
We only lean on the railings, gasping for breath, when we're out of sight (and being "out of sight" can take quite a while when you're running on Brighton beach!)
