Some insects stay attached to the skin for sometime, it is realistic when awake or asleep to find an insect on you skin, and quite often it is biting you and you flick it off.

Simples
Haha .. I wish I'd found the bugger that bit me and managed to flick it off at the time or I wouldn't have spent over eighteen months suffering from cellulitis, ultrasounds ,an ulcerated leg , and having to wear horrible compression socks for ages .
did they say 'what' it could have been?
It was a mossie bite which became infected .One of those things .
Next time I get bitten by a wasp for example I'll be sure to to ask him to cling on so I can get his autograph .
As if insects stay attached to your skin once they've bitten you .If they did we would all be going about with wasps and mossies hanging onto us for grim life .
Ticks might cling but insects don't hang around .They bite and go .

ha ha, some of these comments have really made me giggle.

I have no idea what bit me. As I said, I just remember having a bite but not actually receiving it. Could have been anything and I don't expect to ever find out. I just have a packet of Piriton handy wherever I go now.

They have said they might try and stitch it up in a few weeks time but if they don't they said I'm going to have a pretty ugly scar left. My accountant said he can put me in touch with a lady he knows who tattoos over scars to improve the appearance but as I don't get my legs out very much I'm not too bothered really. I just wait and see how it turns out.
Milly, my daughter never had her wound stitched and it was almost exactly the same as yours, she also had to have it packed and dressed daily for weeks. Her scar is not that bad 3 years on but is definitely visible.
