Knife phobias

Bit of a funny one- I have a phobia about knives- get really freaked if someone is standing with a sharp knife and cant watch cooking programmes etc. Anyone else familiar with this or have and strange and startling fears?

I'm not as bad as you, by the sounds of things but knives do scare the bejeesus out of me.  Why the hell would anyone need to buy/own those scary bowie knife type things!!??

Oh my god, how do you cook?!?! Never heard of that one but I do have a few phobias myself, the weirdest being sticky labels! But not all of them only particular ones. Usually the smaller or older looking they are the worse my fear. The worst ones are those little yellow price stickers you get in corner shops and those little round ones you get on clothes labels�. Urgh!!!

Well I'm absolutely terrified of balloons, so it could be worse spk

I know cooking can be an issue ! I tend to buy veg and stuff thats already chopped. Its a rare one- Ive looked on websites and stuff but cant find anyone else with it. How strange the mind works !

omg cat, i have a phobia of balloons too! really bad, nearly jumped out of a car once and screamed when callum was offered one in maccy d's!

I am terrified at the damage you could do with one and no I'm not a loony but to me it would be like handling a gun.On a wee different not I cannot stand on a balcony or similar as I have this overwhelming feeling of 'What if I were just to fall off' a kind of in control of your own destiny type feeling.Really scares me.

mycatis. My hubby has collected knives for years,Bowie's included. He keeps them all under lock and key in our spare room along with his collection of swords from all over the world. As he rightly says.The instuments themselves are not dangerous..its the people who use them.

FINA- even the thought for me of your husband having them terrifies me. Ive been in peoples houses and restaurants occasionally that have swords and things mounted on the wall and I have to leave. Its very disturbing. Only phobia I have and no idea where it came from. I 100% agree with your husband in that its the instuments themselves are not dangerous..its the people who use them. Would be helpful if I could get over it but we all have our cross to bear I guess ! Thanks all for the posts xxx

spk. I understand. I used to have a phobia of scissors and where that came from I dont know!  I had cbt several years ago and luckily overcame it,was'nt easy all the same. It must be hard for you.
