I read about Tom Cruise playing Reacher the other day, and could have burst out laughing. I've been racking my brain for the last few days as to who would be the best present day actor to play the 6'5" Major. This is my list so far, in no particular order:

Gerrard Butler
Jason Statham (even though he is English)
Daniel Craig (not high on list)
Brad Pitt
Christian Slater
Russell Crowe

There don't seem to be many good actors who fit the stature of this character. Any of them stand out as being good contenders?

Since yesterday I've been thinking a bit about this and to be honest I can't think of anybody to fit the bill. I know I'm out of touch with the current crop of actors but there must be somebody out there to fit the profile better then Cruise

Good evening QM - I`m in Montreal at the Jazz Festival, coming home tomorrow.

You are of course, quite right - I shall have to boycott the film if tiny Tom plays Reacher!!!

It`s nothing to do with his lack of height, it`s the lack of everything that is Reacher that`s the issue here.

I think Hugh Jackman would be ideal - he can do the quietly menacing pose very well indeed.

Let`s hope sense wins out over dollars in Hollywood, although, to be honest, I`m not holding my breath!!!

I read 'In Cold Blood' by Truman Capote for A level English, brilliant book. They chose Eric Roberts, (Julia Roberts' brother), to play Perry Smith. Roberts is over 6ft tall and Perry Smith was 5ft 2in, he was also half North American Indian and half Irish. The billing totally ruined the film. I can't imagine Mr Cruise being particularly credible. There are plenty of out of work actors out there, why choose him?
