I made a report to the police, which was investigated by way of interviewing two people in relation to the report i made. A police officer has told me something which was stated by one of those people, which contradicts the other person, as this is relative to part of my report, can i use this knowledge? or obtain a copy of that statement? It would prove that a lie has been told which is significant in the matter. I would like to use it as evidence in the civil court. The police are unable to proceed due to lack of evidence at this time.

Have you engaged the services of a solicitor?
They will be able to advise how best to procure *all* relevant information for your civil case.

hi jackthehat, thankyou for your reply, yes i have a solicitor, who as yet seems reluctant to divulge the evidence, and i wonder if maybe the police "own" (for want of a better word) the evidence as they have gained it. I will call the solicitor tomro and ask outright what is holding this back from being divulged and go from there. thanks again.
i used it in a case where i was a defendant (ie: the apparent witnesses statements contradicted each other) and it was mentioned in court and the supposed witnesses ended up admitting they had lied and i was found rightfully not guilty. def use what u know... and go through all statements with a fine tooth comb

Hi purplepoladot

Each police force will have their own policy on disclosure / obtaining information from police for civil proceedings etc which will be available on the internet for public viewing.
