Only discovered Answerbank recently, and it is quite simply the bees knees - But tell me this, why is everybody on the site so pleasant and helpful. Normally, on any forum type thang you get several pedantic, snide and thoroughly odious posters who take great delight in pulling apart other peoples posts. On AB even the most obvious questions that could have been solved in 0.13secs on Google are answered with great politeness and general aplomb. Are Moderators filtering out the sarky B*stards...or are you all just fantastic human beings. - It's in inspiration, it really is.

Apart from spellmaster...yes!
Methinks that we are all nice people really ....... but the AB Ed does do a few sneaky edits at times. Usually for the good I might add.
Real answer is that the editor/s of this site regularly filter out snide sacastic and irrelevant answers, particularly if they are the first answer, like my answer above [something to do with the fact that posting a nonsense answer first means the answer moves to the answered section and therefore may not be viewed by those looking for unanswered questions]. They also discourage abuse and insult of other users, which is fair enough, as you spend more time here you'll spot some excellent sarky answer creeping through especially to those questions asked over and over again [Wingwalking or Tyre pressures anyone?] and some excellent arguements develop [Whatever happened to Fake Flirty I wonder?] though there haven't been any real good ones for a while [possibly something to do with all the people who hang out on the related yahoo group not bothering to come back her so often?]. Seems to me that the reason a lot of questions which as you say could be answered far quicker via google are answered here is that as with all people with knowledge they like to show off a little, as well as of course help out a soul in need, you'll see some regular answerers [is that a word] source their answers or provide the questioner with info on how they could have found the answer themselves.... is my answer above still there?

Your answer is still there sir....Vaguely aware that the Spellmaster may display some of the traits specified in my question...but having said that, even the sarky posts of his that I have read have been posted with quie a degree of good humour

You all get top marks...heck, I'll even give myself some!
By the 'eck Headtime; AB is the biz and an enigma too. The people here are not representative of newsgroup types. There are no trolls, how bizarre is that? Lurkers a plenty though, i imagine. AB people just want to help lubricate the wheels a bit; why not? Spellmaster is a fine member too, naysayers are being ironic, I'm sure and maybe a wee bit 'tongue in cheek' which i never am.
To Moog; http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/answerbok/
never poached a member yet. We enhance AB [That's a matter of opinion! - AB Editor] by providing a forum for email and chat. We're merely a splinter of the great tree that is Answerbank. :-)
Never said any have been "poached" or that it was a bad thing just commenting that there seems to be a number of people who used to be VERY regular and interesting posters on this site that you hardly ever see either asking or answering anymore and that this seems to be directly related to the advent of the Yahoo group, could be they got bored or died, who knows but I think AB Editor's comment says it all really... splitters!!!
This is a fantastic site with, in the main, very helpful contributors. On the yahoo point, I have to agree with moog. Many regular visitors seem be to posting less often, but hey, it's a free world. Do you think they talk about us behind our backs? ;0)
Ah good to see the editor choosing to alter someone's answer when it doesn't fit with his views....any chance the rest of us will be given this right some time soon then mike?

To answer the queestion most people choose to frequent the site to be helpful in the first place and we have all asked questions as well so it's nice to be nice.

To close I'd like to ask why so many people have suddenly decided to voice opinions on things that they have no first hand experience of...none of the peopel who have commented on the extra little site set up by xyzzy have become members so they certainly dont know the visitors there or their habits and while I'm at it as far as i can count they have been at least 5 users who said they were at the convention......for the information of anyone who isn't a member of the site mentioned most of the people who are on there still are regular users of this site as well it's merely another place to go on the numerous times when this site refuses to work properly.

So there is a big long whingy sarky answer for you headtime

I was under the impression that voicing opinions was one of the primary functions of this site? And speaking for myself only as to whether I have any experience of what I am voicing my opinion about... of course I do, I regularly visit this site and have noticed a definite decrease in postings from a number of regulars who are members on the yahoo group, do I have a problem with that, of course not why would I, do I think that it or the convention have been a detriment to the Answerbank, not really could easily argue it's has enhanced the site, have I been "the answerbok" yes, am I interested in it, no. My opinion that's all.
Let's face facts it only has ten members and 5 people at the convention.... hope they had a good time.
Moog you may have visited the home page of the answerbok but you certainly haven't been inside as you aren't a member and therefore you don't have access to the member list and you don't know what goes on inside so how can you say whether or not your interested? Thats like the child at the dinner table that refuses to eat it's sprouts without having tried them...and yes ALL the people who attended the convention and all the members of answerbok have a good time on a regular basis thank you very uch.
What a strange idea that if you find a new site you stop using others! Any site which interests you will draw you back. Some considerations: there are a few "formerly regular" submittors to A'Bank who haven't been apparent for a while - and they are NOT in A'Bok; personal circumstances can certainly restrict net activity overall, and Ed. - regular site problems must have an effect? We don't talk about you simon_says cos we got more interesting subject matter! :) Good to see any of you on a'bok, although be advised of dress code!
