I had my BP taken at the sports centre and it was 190/96. I'm not medically qualified but it sounded high to me, so I asked if it was okay and was told it is acceptable as long as the second figure is under 100.

Is this correct?

That's very interesting Rov. Thanks for that. I'll pick some up from the supermarket.
mine was 160/117 last week when I went for my pre-op!

I think it's a load of bull...my BP has always been remarkably low (not by me, by GPS and GP nurse practioners)

They said I should go for a check in 3/6/9 days...?!!
GPs, not a SatNav! lol
Me too, Mrs.C - it would be nice to lower it by some other method than medication. Thanks for the hint Rov. Incidentally I thought the first number should be around 140, but I could be wrong.
P.S. How much should you drink (of pomegranite juice)?

I once bought a blood pressure monitor, cost me forty nine quid, and even then they reckoned it was half price. I took it into the practice nurse and she checked it against hers and said it was way out.

I should've took it back and got a refund I suppose.
mrs.c - I did exactly the same and the one I bought was not calibrated. I returned it as 'not fit for the purpose for which it was purchased' and got a full refund. With regards to the BP reading - do get it checked out by your doctor. It might not be serious but one should not run the risk. I speak from personal experience.

Thanks ttfn. I'm due a weight check at the end of July so I'll make sure to get BP checked as well.

Just wish I'd returned the BP monitor. Time flies by so quickly and I realise it was more than a year ago now.
WoooW!.....take it easy for a moment .

You are already taking BP lowering tablets and you are getting all worked up about one isolated BP reading...shame on you ;-)

Go to Boots or any other outlet and buy an upper arm BP machine and take your BP three times a day for a week. Then you will have a good idea about you BP and then get back to us on AB.

Going to a Dr, or a practice nurse will just give you a recording of your BP on just one occasion on one part of the day which may not accurately represent your true cardio-vascular state.

Hi Sqad, thanks for reply.

I'm very calm about it, not getting worked up, was just interested in the good peeps on AB's thoughts on it.

As mentioned in my previous post, I did buy a monitor, but it wasn't accurate. Should have took it back, but hey ho.

I don't intend to make a special journey to the Doc's....I'm gonna be there soon anyway for a weight-check, so thought that I may as well ask for a BP check at the same time.

Btw, I take 10mg Felodipine and 2.5mg Ramipril daily.

Please excuse me if I don't come back to the thread today - I am setting off for Oxfordshire shortly so might not see any replies until late tomorrow.
mrsc....have a good time.

Thanks very much Sqad.

I'm sure I will - it's not work related - I'm off on a jolly. :o)
Regarding the pomegranite juice you can get results from a small glass at breakfast time. It shows the power of the stuff because the Tesco variety is diluted and there are only 6 pomegranites per litre of juice.

An interesting point is that on their BP tablet box you are warned not to take GRAPEFRUIT juice with the tablets so one way or the other these juiices have extraordinary effects.
There are a number of articles extolling the benefits of pomegranite juice but here is a typical example:
