English nationality

Here's a thought. Does anyone, who was born in England, know what nationality they are? English does not seem to be accepted as a nationality any more, one must put "British". Even "United Kingdom" is irrelevant with Scotland and Wales being devolved and having their own parliaments. I am confused.

I was born in England so I am English (and proud of it). I cross out British and write English in its place. If someone in authority doesn't like it they can do the other thing and lump it. I have yet to be prosecuted for it and the police have not knocked at my door.

I put English first, then British, what so difficult about that.

I am English as far back as 1630 up to now, but I've seen mention of our family name in a document dated 1532. I am fascinated with genaeology search atm.

English passports don't exist but British ones do. In France it's more confusing because when asked my nationality and I say British they say English? In their eyes everyone in Great Britain are English!!

Why on earth would you be proud of being English if it was just an accident of birth?

Are you proud of the colour of your hair or eyes?

If you've struggled to become English I could understand it - I'm guessing that's not the case

By similar logic why should I be proud of anything at all. It wasn't my decision to be born with the ability to do something, or learn to do something. I think pride in your tribe is perfectly reasonable.

you can be proud of making the most of your abilities. No need to feel proud of having them in the first place.

Of course some take pride in slacking too.

others don't need to know; pride is what you feel yourself and nobody can take it away from you. It's not something to be awarded according to the judgment of others.

I was born in London by accident really. My Irish father was staring in a show at the London Paladium and well, my also Irish mum was missing her hubby and wanted to see the show. She didn't quite get the show she was expecting, as along came baby me, a few weeks early. I was nearly born backstage, lol! So there we are! I have both British and Irish nationalities, but consider myself more Irish as both parents being Irish, I always felt I was. Mind you, I grew up in Germany and France mostly ...

I'm with Starbuckone cross out British and put English however it starting to appear on some ethnic monitoring forms so attitudes are slowly changing

I always put a tick or a cross (whcihever is asked) to say I am British.

Any other question after that, they can keep their neb out IMO
