Grammar help please

Hi, just ordering a grave marker for my son, so i want it to be right. Can you tell me if this line has the right punctuation please (spacing, capitals punctuation)?
In our arms for a day; in our hearts forever.

Bednobs, there are people here on this site better qualified than me to comment on the grammar. I just wanted say that they are very moving sentiments expressed in that line.

I think a comma but the sentiments the same and that's the most important thing.

I'm no expert, and wish my school was better at teaching, but it looks ok to me. That said, I use punctuation so it reads much as I would say something. I guess the semicolon could be substituted for other punctuation if desired.

I would go for:

In our arms for a day,
In our hearts forever.

But that's just my personal preference - I think it gives a more poetic feel to it.

You could write it in 2 sentences, but I think the one you show will look better. No, no second capital, it is the same sentence, as shown.

If you write it on two lines in verse form then you would use a second capital.

semi colon is fine, no need for capital on the 2nd.

in ordinary circumstances you could replace the semicolon with and or a full stop, but what you have done is fine, and is fitting for the sentiment. charles dickens used it thus:

It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.

For a memorial, you don't need inverted commas, it's not direct reported speech.......... I like it as it is, bednobs, the semi-colon gives that extra breathing space which you don't get with a comma.
