I've been dating my boyfriend for 8 months since he moved into the flat next to mine and things are going well. I run my own business and have four staff working for me in an office, the other night he asked if I could consider his dad for a job. I agreed to see him but said I didn't want anything to get awkward between any of us, he came into the office and was lovely and would actually be perfect for the job but I'm very aware of how early on we are in the relationship and don't want things to be awkward. What shall I do?

have you got a vacancy?
is he the best candidate?
no point in considering it unless the answers yes
Does his dad live next door to you as well?
If not, give him the job. If you do split up with bf it should make no difference to your working relationship.

From the start treat him as you would any other employee during working hours.

Yes I do have a vacancy and he is very well suited for the job, but I don't what things to get awkward if me and his son split up.

No, he doesn't live next door!

If you decide to employ him make it perfectly clear it's because he is the best man for the job. Don't favour him at all as that may make your other employees feel they've been pushed out a bit. You have to be really professional. Your private life mustn't be allowed to overlap into your business life.
