Do you think we have a responsibility to tell fellow AB contributers that they are acting like an ahrs? Afterall, you would tell your friend if their flies were undone, had spinach in their teeth or had iffy breath: is it better to be cruel to be kind? In the words of Alan Partridge, let battle commence...

j2b - sorry about that. I say do whatever you feel like at the time. Sometimes you can ignore it, sometimes point it out politely or if you're having a bad day you can take it out on this complete stranger on the internet with no repercussions. I take it you were lighting the blue touch paper & hoping for a firework display with the question. If so, good work (I find the arguments on here very entertaining sometimes).
Well, rcp, see Toenails Q. in Body and Soul; his 'stomping on questions with personal comments' got up my goat - or is it got my goat. He is getting lost in nastiness; see what he says to newbie Chazza on her Brad Pitt Q. He acting like he desperate to be heard and nasty, so last nite he ridiculed my serious question and my state of mind and not the first time either; big ego clod.
:-)
he also sniping my replies, if you want to know, even calls me prejudiced in 'Animals with ?????' Q. - just because i said about him defending 'repeat posters' like Artex and Animals with N - no need to say "my words are dictated by prejudices"! - You'd have to get a wriggle on to see the true background as ABeditor is adjusting his 'Animal ?' Question as we speak...
If youre dragging this up then you have to admit that there are a couple of people on this site who are rude or unhelpful or who jump on lighthearted questions with real viciousness. But equally when a serious question is posed there are a number of posters who respond with genuine sensitivity and respect. Its like real life. You aint going to like everyone.
Must admit, it gets on my t*ts when the only replies you see to some Qs are from people trying to sound clever/witty/just being sarcastic or rude - it's usually the same people. Whilst such remarks would no doubt be funny when engaging in normal banter with friends, this just doesn't come across in print and becomes very tiresome. Some people on this site appear to be on a bit of an ego-boost; they are trying too hard because they are perhaps not being 'heard' in their own life. Oops, that was a bit b*tchy wasn't it?
As mikewith so aptly stated; If you want to bytch and rant, feel free to join http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/answerbok/
most applicants will be happily accepted :-)
You would expect a response from me as I am specifically mentioned in despatches above ..... so...... Currently I have a lot of time on my hands which I have been able to use to research and answer (in my opinion, helpfully) a number of questions. I agree that a couple of answers (only a couple) have been lighthearted but i.m.o. they have been prompted by the nature or complexity of the question. I do not consider that I have ever been involved in any personal 'attacks'. My recent exchanges with Xyzzy have, I believe, been shared by us both with the same twisted sense of humour. I now appreciate that those exchanges are not to the good of the site, and I will make every effort not to continue. (Truce Xyzzy ?) To Chazza ...... so, ok, you are obviously not going to start a fan club for me. It is my belief that the nature of many of the postings on this site changed dramatically, for the worse, since the asking /answering of questions relating to both the AB covention and the AB Ed. These have both prompted some heated debate and, at times, some very personal remarks. I suggest that now is the time for us all to take a deep breath and revert to asking and answering questions without malice or getting personally involved with the site contributors. This is a great site for the exchange of information, which will always prompt personal opinion, but lets all keep those opinions within the bounds of respectability and with a sense of etiquette. And, finally j2button, I do think that we have a responsibility to tell others when we think that they are out of order. Quite how that is done on a site like this is another matter for debate.
ok truce Mikewall01.. now where's darth vader :-) Aww, sometimes this site can get a bit slow, i just like a little change of pacer once in a while liven up the evening? I try to be witty, helpful and mischievous.. what's wrong with that? just if i'm not very good at it.. at least i'm not subversive eh? Public apology to mikewith for stirring it up a tad, but hey it moved a few cobwebs right? Everybody back on your heads then... Thing with text see, is tone of voice [not there] so mikewith says have i been on the sherry ;-) with a wink like that.. and i can take a joke. then someone Else comes out with a similar quip [no wink either], well you could lose your rag.. but i don't get the award for that.. we know someone else, [och] who's always out of his pram.! livens up the show i say, but not on and on and on. Anyway, who's that girl, (in the Orange ad?)
mikewall01 seems to have had some stick here. In my opinion that is undeserved. I've checked many of his postings and generally they are very helpful and informative. Question for j2button. Who were you referring to ? And, what about Miss Zippy and Comloulou; who do you refer to ? Lets get this aired and then we can all get over the problem ..... hopefully.
It depends how much of an ahrse they are being. There are probably a lot of English people who use this site who choose to just smile (in a smug and supercilious way!) when we are all, as a nation, referred to as "evil forces." We don't necessarily want to be edited ouselves with a heavy hand so we respect other people's right to express themselves. And let's face it, we can all get out of bed the wrong side occasionally. On the other hand, if someone asks a factual question (rather than one inviting debate) they are entitled to an appropriate reply.
Big-up everyone's answers and a five star answer for woodpam. I think some people on this site have a truely frightful ego (name removed - AB Editor) and others are just plane rude/stupid (name removed - AB Editor) and if I (in other people's eyes) were as guilty I would welcome someone telling me my curt manner was unapetising (sp? spellmaster, where are you?). I think people are grown up enough to take criticism and this kind of debate should not be censored.
[I appreciate that there is an irony in this particular post being edited but I must remind you that personal abuse is not tolerated on this site! Quite simply, there are many places on the web and in real life where you can be rude to people and this isn't one of them. Why? Because them's the rules! And, to be honest, some people are clearly "grown up enough to take criticism". (Some are, and have responded positively and with grace and humour on this thread. I've left their posts untouched: exceptions that prove the rule).
All points and opinions on this matter have been read and noted with great thanks from 'the team' but please, please.. let's get back to asking and answering questions! - AB Editor]
