Over the last month I have developed acid reflux and it is getting so bad now that I can't even sleep lieing down! I burp acid all the time and have the foulest breath that my 7yr old told me to brush my teeth!!! Oh and I don't know if it is connected but a crownfell out yesterday?

If I do Lie down I wake with Acid coming out my mouth and nose and it is the vilest taste so have now taken to sleeping sitting up in bed. But that is so uncomfortable that I now have a dodgy back lol

The arm chair is now my prefered mode of sleep :(

I have taken antacid tablets and gavisdon liquid but they don't seem to do a great deal.

Anyway after all this waffle... Any ideas on what to try next?

Thank you

i had my gall bladder removed some time back, but did have the problem long before then. I still cough like an old smoker, and no i never have smoked, so its not that. I have tried to figure it out over the years, but sort of resigned myself, but its really unpleasant.
Lanzoprazole and Omeprazole are good. I used to take them but came off in one of my fed up of popping pills moments and the symptoms came back and now back on it for a suspected ulcer.

I try to sleep flatter posture wise as having lots of pillows makes me ache, not thought about propping the bed up! Not sure if I can as it's one of those big heavy Ikea low base ones and last time I moved it I ended up with an infected warwound (I shouldn't be allowed out!) so maybe a job for a helpful man! V Pillows are also really comfy and good for helping prop you up more supportively.

Hi everyone.

Thank you for the helpfull advice.

The night time propping up doesn't help a great deal as it still 'flows like the Amazon' when I am sleeping sitting up in a chair!!!

I have heard that the acid rots the enamel on your teeth so it can be a problem there as well.

Carol.
I had serious acid reflux for a long time which after investigation, turned out to be caused by an ulcer & a large haitus hernia. I was a smoker for many years which caused the hernia. The ulcer was stress related but exacerbated by certain foods - avoid cucumber, tomatoes, pineapple & all citrus fruit. Don't eat late & drink water after teatime. I had treatment for the ulcer which has now healed. The only antacid that has ever worked for me is BISODOL tablets. Try sleeping with an extra pillow as even a slightly raised neck & head can have very beneficial results.
Just a quick note here, acid reflux can be a symptom of coeliac disease, I don't know if that means anything to you in that you could relate to having that but thought I'd just mention it. Ask your doctor if you want to get checked as they can that initially by a blood test. Hope it helps, can imagine it must be dreadful to suffer.
To avoid a cricked neck Cassa - try having two pillows but tuck the bottom pillow under your shoulder blades instead of just into the base of your neck. If they are soft flexible pillows they are better. Hope it works for you - it does for me .....
See a doctor - you might have a hiatus hernia.
