Hi
I have a Ford Focus that has developed a lip or ridge on the nearside front brake disc. It’s in the middle of the radius and is 3-4mm thick and similar depth. Generally the braking is ok until a high deceleration stop when there’s some vibration.
Will this fail an MOT, I’m short of time so I’m wondering if I could get away with fixing it after?
Thank you in advance.

You don't half speak some bollux sometimes Trim.

So long as the brakes pass on the roller check without imbalance of more than 20% ... they will pass.
Even heavy pitting and corrosion is allowed now .. but a crack or multiple cracking will fail.
The amount of depth of wear is what manufacturers recommend .. nothing to do with MOT requirements. Once the disc thickness becomes more than approx 1.5mm wear on each side, they should be replaced at next pad change .. as should these discs.
sorry to hijack this thread....Just ashort message to A1bags. Re my Hyundai Sante Fe brake prob sometime ago, problem solved. Something to do with the servo. An adjustment was made in some small gap between components which was closing due to the extreme temperatures here. Most have been a small job as it only cost me 30 euro at the main dealer. Thought I would let you know and say thanks for all your advice
Sorry Jos

Why only on the N/S? Myself, for the price & time it takes to replace the lot, replace.
I stand by what I said.
That is MOT law as it stands at the moment .. If it's ok on the rollers, replace at next pad change.
It's a granite chip score or a small piece of metal been stuck between caliper and disc probably. It has worn a small groove.

Pleased you got it sorted.
What an unusual problem!
So ALL free play disappeared and the mechanism was actually applying the brakes without touching them .. ODD!
