Great idea, would they do it, not in a zillion years.
I own land ( right next door to my house incidentally) and we have several traveller families 'winter through' with us, without ever having had a major problem ( eleven years and counting).
i'm quite happy with where they are the noo, about 500 miles away from me
The travellers own the land they are currently living own, that is not in dispute, what is in dispute is the planning for the brick structures.
That's great Nox. I'm glad it has worked out for you. May I ask, do you think that travellers should be exempt from abiding by planning laws etc. when they move onto land they have purchased and land they have simply taken over? Or should they have to adhere to the same laws as everyone else? Just interested on how you see this.

I think Charlie, you will find that they only own a part of Dale farm, not the whole area they were using.
carakeel is right, according to last night's programme, the do own the land, but not the part they built onto, that is green belt land, they didn't get planning permission, hence all the hoo haa

Has this area of land been connected to the services ie electricity, gas, water and sewers etc.

If so do they pay their water and sewage charges, electric and gas bills, and of course Council Tax, and Vehicle Tax?
I think they do have the services because there is talk of turning the elec. off. Which raises the question which I raised in another post . I

The blond bloke featured in last nights dispatches explained how he bought the land, then moved in lock stock and barrel when the council offices were closed on the bank holiday, so there was no one around to take action. Then simply built on the land, even though they had no planning permission. So break the law, don't pay tax, insurance, nothing, what a cheek
I've owned one before. they'ye messy, not house trained, steal things...more trouble than they are worth

There is 5 acres of greenbelt land near me which is covered with delapidated , rusting corrugated iron buildings, but the owner gets away with it because they are temporary buildings. In fact they have been there over 30 years. I expect the council will not be able to remove any movable buildings on Dale Farm if the travellers claim they are for agricultural use.

I doubt they need to read it . They probably wrote it with help from the LibDems.
No not counting my belonging thanks AOG, theyre all quite safe and sound. I think Carakeel that if they have bought the land and provided themselves with somwhere to rest ( there being pitifully few places suited to their needs which are provided by local councils) then it should at least be examined whether or not the best thing would be to allow them to stay. People have a right, ALL people, not just non travellers who tend to be the majority who make the laws, to live in a manner in keeping with their heritage and ethnicity, and in the case of travellers this is not to bung em into the nearest council slum, which is usually the option. I fully appreciate that people have issues with them seemingly flauting the law on planning, but there has to be sufficient provision for people who wish to live a transient life, just as there has to be sufficient provision for those of you who don't. Not many of you would relish the idea of being forcibly moved on every few weeks and made to live in a caravan, just so, these people have no desire to settle and live in houses.
