PC Games

When I was younger I loved the point and click adventure PC games like The Dig, Grim Fandango, The Neverhood, Day of the Tentacle and Rent a Hero (the THQ one, not the Sega one). But I can't seem to find any in that format nowadays; is there anyone still making them and if so does anyone have any suggestions of good ones?

Many are indie titles and either free or very cheap (also often of dubious quality or quite mental). There should be something you love here.

I loved the games youve just said i also played a series called simon the sorcerer its wonderful, managed to get it to run on my windows vista pc and you can get it for you iphone aswell. I highly recommend it, its so funny

Pretty much every point and clicker ever released is playable on this tool for newer PC's, you still need the original game though. Just recently played The Dig again for old times sake.

Thanks Daisho; we still have the games; The Neverhood is a copy so not sure if that will work and DOTT was on floppy disc (!!!) and operated on DOS (!!!) so can't even put that in my laptop but will definitely have a go with the others!
They were great weren't they JustJenni; don't know why LucasArts stopped making them?
Little Big Adventure was another great one although remember moving around took ages sometimes!

omg your 1 of only a few people that know what the hell little big adventure is, i loved it so much, i still have them in boxes under my desk, i did buy something called a dos box on ebay its a program that helps old games run on modern pc's it let me finally play a sam and max game i never got chance to. Sophie they have made a few new simon the sorcerer most resently 4 which wasnt as funny as the old orginal version but it was nice to play it again and ive been waiting for 5 to come out for years, released in germany but not here its a huge bummer.
Did you ever play toonstruck? thats an old dos game id love to play again.

You do realise that dosbox is a free tool to use, so if you payed for it then you've been ripped off.

Never heard of ToonStruck? Whenever I mention Little Big Adventure to people they say "Little Big Planet??" No; it was better than that! Dad said he downloaded DOTT ages ago; I hadn't realised; so will be playing that soon I think! Then am going to download that scummvm thing and play Grim Fandango; did actually manage to get that to work on my laptop but got to a certain bit and one of the characters I needed to talk to just vanished; the graphics for them just disappeared!
Would still like to know why they don't make games like that anymore though!

I think one of the last games of that genre was 'The Longest journey' and it's sequel 'Dreamfall'. I have the Longest Journey and it plays like any classic point & Click adventure and runs fine in at least XP (Haven't tried Win 7 yet). It might be worth a look at for you.

Also; are there any games for the Playstation which have storylines and are similar to the old point and click ones?

I really haven't tried it myself but I may get round to it soon.
As for playstation, they released the discworld games on that format.
Lately there has been various remakes of the Monkey Island games which may interest you.

I used to quite like point and click adventures, but I lost some interest when too many seemed to want the player to find the single hidden pixel on one particulr screen, that you have no clue is even there, and click on it to progress.

If anyone has similar tastes to me the most recent game I've enjoyed and that I can recommend would be Dragon Age Origins. But it is a little more complex than the simple point and click, and you do have to enjoy the regular battles to progress.

It's the battle element of a lot of newer games I don't like OG; I love the puzzles that are on games like Uncharted and help my boyfriend solve them when he's playing but couldn't be bothered with all the fighting to play them myself!

It's not my preferred method of playing, but I understand one can set up a "tactics" screen and then let the character sort the battles out for themselves while you watch patiently. Especially if you've set the game to easy level, which seems to relate to the difficulty of the fights anyway. But I appreciate it may not be everyone's 'cup of tea'.

Ah right; will maybe rent it to have a try; don't like to commit to new things straight away!
