Can you put divx/avi files onto a dvd upto the 4.7GB limit? For example if I had 4 avi files of 800MB each, could I put them onto a single DVD and then play them back on a compatible DVD player. I know that this can be done with ordinary CDs, but not sure about DVDs.

yes.
if you have a divx compatible player then you can burn the files as 'data' so you can easily put 5 800 meg movies on a disc but if not you will have to burn as video files and only get 2 per dvd. this is the realistic limit without loss of quality.

thanx
There is software you can use to put 4 800MB files onto one DVD and have it play in any DVD player - i think you'd have to buy this software, though....and the chances of you noticing a big difference in quality is slim!
