St Francis Xavier.
The majority of people think it was St Francis Xavier.Most say seven years too.

It has equally often been attributed to Saint Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, but - whether he or Xavier - it seems certain to be early Jesuit in origin.
