Went to the bank today....

Gave the teller my debit card and asked for £500. Put my pin in the machine and she gave me £5. When I question her she apologised and said "I thought you said £5. So my question is (other than children) do people queue in the bank to take out £5.

well, I use plastic - but credit cards rather than debit cards; I've got along fine with them for years. It helps to have a spare just in case one plays up, though. (And I pay by direct debit, so the payments are never late - I got caught like that once when the Christmas rush meant my payment arrived late.) I still withdraw cash from ATMs from time to time, but mostly for petty cash.
There's a cash machine around here where the only option is £10, £20, £30 or £40.
The cash machine that robbed me of £20 18 months ago (and the machine operator wouldn't give it back to me) gave me £20 extra a couple of weeks ago, but I still don't like using it (it makes a horrible whirring noise, like it's struggling to find any money).
