I have a mobile ... to dial, I hold it above the steering wheel, so I can see the road ahead ... then I talk ... ILLEGAL.

I have a hands free mobile, clipped on the dashboard on the other side of the car ... to dial, I lean across the car, and look across and down at the dashboard, so I CAN'T see the road ahead ... there could be ANYTHING in the road! ... then I talk ... LEGAL.

So the logic is ...

Oh, why should I care.

I agree with Dave. Ban them from moving vehicles.
JJ, I think if you are touching the phone to dial out, text, receive data etc then you are breaking the law. My car syncs to the bluetooth via the computer in the car, all my address book comes up there so I can dial out through that, although I usually pull over to do this as it's too much faffing and my eyes would be off the road for too long.

rov makesa good point, which is supported by ROSPA !
we have binocular vision, so we can partly see around objects in front of us, depending just how big and how far away they are. But as Rov says, they're not brain free.
I'm unsure why your mobile is on the other side of the car.

In the unlikely event wanted to dial out whilst driving I'd just need to adjust a knob on the bluetooth receiver to my right, until the name I wanted came up on the display. Granted a distraction so I'm unlikely to do it, but not a massive difference to changing the radio station.

Old Geezer, go to your "voice commands" phonebook section and set up voice dialling for as many entries as you can remember.
Thereafter it's green button, prompt, say the name and it dials out. One button.
You are probably correct. I guess I've not had the incentive given I've never had a need to outdial on the go. Only parked. I'll check it out, thanks.
Aaahh Karen : ( Bless.
