is there anyway I can find my router's password on my computer, it is not what I thought it was, it is not the one the shop gave me and it is not the one under the casing, desperately need it to connect daughter's new xmas laptop!
Not unless you made a note of it in a document somewhere... ;-)
The usual question: is your Caps Lock on? Assuming it isn't, the last resort will be to find the "return to factory settings" button on the router. Of course, you'll need to configure it from the ground up again, but...
I have tried it all ways but cannot get in, the shop configured it and the no they usually use doesn't work. I've looked on google and it is so confusing ie default gateway ? that i daren't even try it for fear of losing the kit and caboodle. Oh well, many thanks will just keep trying.
i have a linksys wireless router and if you disconnect it from the internet (pull the cable) and log in to its IP address (usually on the router itself). I can change the settings including the passsword.
you should be able to do this because your computer already recognises the password.
Just to clarify: the router's password is what you use when you want to change its configuration, however this won't be (or certainly SHOULDN'T be!) the key / passphrase which you type into wireless devices to allow them to connect. Which is it?
Of course, you will need both if you have enabled MAC address filtering...
Markrae I don't know, just want to be able to connect, I've done it on two other computers a couple of years ago and nothings changed but just can't find the password.
I only have the one, although phones connect to their own but cheaper also if I can use my wifi on my phine, isn't it and still need to connect new laptop.
There are TWO passwords ..
One for the ROUTER Settings. Look on web using Router name and model for your Router basic default password .. That gets you into the router setting (via a page in your browser) To login to router, you will type an address into the address bar .. like 192.168.1.1. That's an Orange Router login address)
One for the Wireless connection (Key usually on sticker underneath router case)
It's possible to change both .. in the router settings. So you need to get into router settings first.
