toilet flushing
5 Answers
Hi, my toilet wont stop flushing - the water just keeps on flushing. The only way I can stop it is a real quick flush (we have a button to push) followed by the cold water tap in the sink being put full on. I then have to watch to see if the flush in the toilet subsides, and when it does I can turn the tap off slowly.
Not sure what is wrong - it has never happened before. Any ideas ??

I guess the easy answer is to call a plumber to replace or fix the defective mechanism. But if you look in and see a bar with a ball float on the end then it may be possible to see why that may be sticking ? Perhaps it can be moved any from whatever it sticks on, or adjusted in some other way. Worth lifting up the lid and seeing if there is anything obvious anyway.
I guess you mean it's a modern one that overflows into the pan rather than through a pipe to outside.
Either the inlet valve sticks open, so it's always overflowing, or the syphon is sticking. The syphon could be staying partially open.
If it's the inlet valve, it's often a piece of dirt keeping the valve open, but if releasing the pressure fixes it, then it's probably just sticky.
Replacements are easy to get hold of anywhere. It shouldn't matter about make and model etc. They're universal.
