Well I have been thinking.......as I am in my early 70's, I find an inclination to become more of a hermit, having little or minimum contact with groups, or not wanting to become a member of "group" such as thouse, , which require membership, I am more comfortable with only one or two persons for communication.
By what I have read this is an unhealthy habit, but I say it is what I prefer and if I do anything else I am uncomfortable and I feel I would be faking it if I acted any other way.
Is there any one else who has experienced this? Am I the only one who wishes to become a hermit of some sort? Or are all the other AB'er young chickens who have never thought about it? Older persons, please only reply?

Just keep as active as you can both in mind and body and you will be fine. May I ask if you have a pet for companionship.? I have a dog and she is my pal -- we have lots of conversations about this and that as we go through the day. People may think a bit sad, but it suits me just fine.
For me, nohorn , I set myself targets to do each day and really haven't the time to spend worrying about what anyone thinks of my life.
All the best to you in 2012.

Hi Brenda: Sounds like you have a very healthy attitude. I am sad to report that I did have a dog, but I did euthanasia on her on Nov 18th. I am still grieving, she left a hold a mile wide in our household, we were together 24/7. She was an unusual dog in that she "talked" like Misha the talking dog. Plus i live with the guilt that I didn't always do wise vet care which is another story. I look forward to the day when we are together again. She told me that if anything ever happened to her that I should find another girl or boy to give fresh air, sunshine, and love to. It would be hard to do, she left such big paw prints to fill. You are right, do what I wish to do.

I am sorry nohorn that I inadvertently strayed into a senstive area, in my last post, by asking about a pet.It was not intentional, merely quoting my own experience .I trust I did not cause you distress.
Just remember nohorn, that we are all here to support each other as situations arise and I for one can talk for England.
All the very best to you in the New Year , and if you wish to keep in touch with us all then please do so.
Sincerely Brenda

Nothing wrong in being a hermit, it's your life, do what you want. if you are happy being a loner then good show, not everyone needs a prop to survive. many people don't want to have to be sociable to strangers etc, as the majority of strangers are usually there only there to tell you how good their life has been.I hate social gatherings, i make my own friends, I love my family, I can suss a person instantly, and some overbearing young female do gooder
who thinks she knows it all at a oap's meeting finishes me off.
I do not want to be treated as a fool, a needy person, or a lonesome person,
or especially, as an old person. as I can see through these people straight away, they have a piece of paper that say's they passed some test or the other, but with no experience of life, and they want to tell me how to run my life, before they are out of nappies almost.
I don't think so.

Nohorn, like you I am very content to be on my own. I am lucky to have family and friends but I do have to grit myself to take part in 'social' occasions as they often include / centre around people I wouldn't spit on if they were on fire. However, I feel that the miracle of the internet allows people like us to socialise on a level we feel comfortable with.
There will be ever larger numbers of us online as time passes, dipping in and out of conversations.
