Change of hairstyle
I had a short graduated bob done a few years ago (went shorter at the back) and have been growing it out as fancied having longer hair again for a bit.
I still have far shorter layers at the back (to about collar length just) with the longer hair under being at least 3 inches longer. I have a graded side fringe which is now about an inch and a half to two inches below the top of my cheekbones.
I have very fine flyaway hair with a natural wave, thinner on the right hand side (plus side parting more to the left), double cowlick, can get oily at the roots (wash it daily) and dry at the end and suffered from straightening with split ends etc...
Am trying to think of getting it in more of a style which is easy to maintain. Have got into the habit of wearing it down more and want to carry on doing so. My hair doesn't really like layers much as it's flyaway, doesn't do volume and would rather keep length as much as possible though reckon I'll need at least up to half an inch off on the longer hair to get the ends tidy this time.
I've found a really cheap place to get it tidied up but want to go in with an idea of what to do rather than just settle for a quick trim as is my usual copout.
Only had my hair cut twice in about 2 years! Had to have a fair bit cut off the first time as it was very dry and scratty at the ends and second time just a tidy up so any ideas as to more of a style I could go for would be great, I've lost some weight so fancy just having a bit of a boost :)

Fine hair is thickened with hilites/tinting which also solves the flyaway problem. I can only suggest a style if I know your age group. Lots of up to date styles on TV & mags; take a picture to your stylist.

The only person who has managed to get decent volume in my hair which stayed is Charles Worthington haha - used to do some guinea pig testing for him for his new products - he has a bit of an advantage though!
I'm recently 33 though people say I look younger than that. Will see if I have a back shot photo (always seem to get an annoying kink at the back) I can upload without being identified.
I had a bit of a shock when I saw some recent do photos where I had properly straightened my hair (in sections rather than the usual halfarsed quick runover with them) and what I assume are old highlights seem to have reappeared!
I stopped having blondy ones years ago as the peroxide made my hair horribly dry. Had caramel for a while and different other shades but not been able to afford anything but DIY colour for a while and no way adventurous to try my own highlights etc... Block colour is my limit. Hoping to go a bit darker again as it tends to make it look a bit thicker and healthier - probably a really dark brown - not too harsh as naturally quite pale.

Don't wash it every day Jenna. I've got fine hair too, which is dry at the ends and greasy at the roots - but washing it every day means I HAVE to wash it every day cos it gets greasier quicker. I wash it every second day and use dry shampoo the other days - and it always looks better on the dry shampoo days cos it gets a bit of body to it. Also, if your budget can stretch to it (sign up with groupon), I recommend a Brazilian Blow Dry. It really conditions the hair and means you can give the straighteners a rest. I've got my eye out for it coming up again with Groupon cos my hair looked so healthy and was so easy to manage after it.

I really need to try that dry shampoo - just have a shower in the mornings without washing my hair everyday. Does it make it feel as clean as a shower shampoo wash? I've made a rod for my own back as I now don't feel right unless it's properly washed before I leave the house every day and yep goes horrible and greasy really quickly.
It's be great to give straighteners a rest too as my hair has suffered - I just do a quick dry (as so fine) in the morning after washing then a quick once over with the straighteners but when I went for one of the guineapig sessions a few years back I was chatting to Charles' assistant and he said it showed it'd been hammered by straightening etc..., moreso on the thicker side of my parting.
I should use a decent separate conditioner too really, I tend to default to Pantene 2 in 1, the smooth and sleek one and use the Aussie Mate leave in conditioner spray sometimes (usually if I'm going to straighten again later properly to go out) and do the occasional deep conditioning treatment.

I use this stuff Jenna - it's dead cheap in Superdrug or similar and it smells lovely and leaves your hair feeling nice and clean.

Jenna I had to make sure I hadn't written that thread, it is exactly like my hair. I have a chin length bob, shorter at the back, I straighten with a hair dryer. I have highlights and wash it every two or three days, it goes wavy in humid and wet weather. Fringe getting thinner as I get older. I use Klorane dry shampoo which is quite expensive, I am sure you can get cheaper, just use it on the roots. Also I use what used to be called a Setting Lotion on the roots only, to give volume when i blow dry. You can damp your hair down when you dont wash it and use the Set Lotion on roots, then blow dry. As a last resort a little talc will stop your hair looking greasy. As a last resort just wash the fringe ! I also use Charles Worthington Shine when I dry my hair which I think probably makes the hair greasy but does give a lovely shine (on ebay in a lilac flat bottle) sorry can't think of the whole name of the product. The highlights tends to give the hair more body, just don't let the ends dry out by washing too much and don;t forget conditioner and then shine or even a pea sized amount of Vitapointe after it is blow dryed. Sorry if I have rambled on a bit here !
