Old ladies' hair styles

This was on Rhod Gilbert's questions the other night and they had a bit of a laugh with it...but why do old ladies have the same, short, blowed or rollered back hair style?

Possibly those ladies that had perms in the sixties and seventies were those that had first had a perm when they first became easily available and were fashionable.
Perhaps they stuck to them because that's what they were used to and liked? As for the blue rinse, I haven't seen one for about 20 years or so.
Shorter hair is usually best for those that don't have / can't afford a face lift as a long style just accentuates the downward lines that everyone gets if they're lucky enough to get old.
And everyones hair loses it's pigmentation eventually to a greater or lesser degree, a dark dye just doesn't suit older skin and makes a person look much less vital.

For ages my friends nan had beautiful long grey tightly curled hair (think it was natural) until she had it cut short; for her I preferred it when it was long but agree that it doesn't suit most older ladies.

Good for you Euphemia; it seems it's mostly younger people who are self obsessed and think nothing of spending hours every day 'getting ready' to go out. How good to just put a comb through and who cares if it's up to the latest trend?

OMG I used to sing in a choir with mostly women over "a certain age", and they all looked so similar that even after two years I couldn't tell them apart! Why they all want to look like that is beyond me.

I'm 41, and have no intention of ever going the whole "short curly purple hair" look. I think it's up to my generation to reclaim individuality - the previous gen seems to have lost it, somewhere between the rollers and the perming solution.

As I've said before on here, I am in my 60s and still have natural (yes really!) long blonde hair, I have absolutely no intention of having a MAC (middle age cut!) I've had long hair since my teens and short hair just wouldn't suit me - I tried a short wig when they were fashionable in the early 70s and everyone said it didn't suit me!
