There must have been loads of Christmas stuff unsold from small shops to huge chains. Same at halloween, Easter, Valentines etc.

Something that has always puzzled me is what happens to it all?

Invariably next years ranges, theme's, colours and packaging/prices etc are very different and I am sure we do not see it again so what happens to it all.

Someone must know. Anybody?

Lots of it's sold off dirt cheap after Christmas - and if you look in the sales, you often see last year's cards popping up again, too.
they sell it in sales. Same as they do with clothes, limited edition things. I bought loads of xmas stuff cards, decorations last week
I've seen lots of shops this week selling it off cheap.

Yes they do sell off cheap but I am certain there is TONS of stuff unsold they have to remove from sale. Cards decs trees etc.
I work in a charity shop and we sometimes get all manner of things in that shops havent sold in their sales, so some of it comes to us :)
Places like Poundland buy it by the pallet, store it and flog it next Christmas.
A lot of it goes to charity. Food stuffs are given away to the homeless. A lot too is returned to the makers to be recycled for nx year in new packaging.
Smiths send all not sold newsparers (Daily) & mags back to the printers to be pulped & sold on...

Can't say for anywhere else, but at Co op, where I work, we sell some stuff off dirt cheap, especially the Xmas cards, wrapping etc, believe me at 20odd pence for a pack of cards they soon sell!

Other seasonal stuff like BBQ sets for example, we just store in the warehouse until the following summer.
I think the same thing mjwman, but more so with clothes. So many clothes shops and so many clothes. And then at the change of season, they all change. Where do they all go ? Thousands and thousand of items unsold, they don't all go in the sale, they just vanish from our shops and in comes a new lot.
