There are many rescue places in Essex. Just Google dog rescue Essex or dog rescue chihuahuas. I think 80% are Staffies due to the feckless nature of people (not all) who own this type of dog. If you want a particular breed be prepared to wait and keep looking.
Wood Green are one option

Good for you/her that you want to 'rescue' a Dog.
Please just think very carefully before you do so as a Dog can need a lot of commitment in terms of care for a good few years, not to be taken lightly!

Good Luck.
If you want a particular breed most have a specific breed rescue. Go to the Kennel Club site and search for the breed you want and follow the links.
Please tell your friend to do a lot of research before getting a dog. Too many people think 'oh, it would be lovely to have a dog' but don't really know what a committment it really is.
Tell her to ask anyone and everyone about any problems they might have experienced and how they overcame them, what they would perhaps have done differently.
If she still feels she can give a dog a good home for approx. 10-18 years, good luck to her and I hope she gets much love and pleasure from her chosen companion.
If you google 'dog rescue' and your area you should find local ones.

many thanks for all the good advice, I shall pass it on to her.
I have a shar pei and a shar pei rescue dog , tried to talk her into having one of these lovely dogs but she is adamant it must be much smaller.

Make sure she knows ALOT about the dog like said before, dogs take alot of responsibility and since she already has 2 dogs it's probably not a good idea to get a 3rd.
