something wrong with my eye
15 Answers
I woke up this morning and one of my eyes is killing me. Its swollen, red and hurts pretty bad. It feels like there is something stuck near my top eyelashes but not just a little bit, the entire eyelash line and under my eyelid is so sore at the top and its not too good at the bottom either. Its watering constantly too. I dont think its a stye as i have had them quite a few times and its different to that. I cant see anything in my eye either. anyone got any ideas?

Could be blepharitis...an infection of the oil glands at the base of each eyelash.
Until you can get it looked at, use a hot compress several times a day. A wet (damp) washcloth held under hot water (the warmer the better) and applied to the eye every hour or so.
If it is blepharitis, there's a medication in liquid or semi-gel form that's prescribed. It goes on just before bed time. (Use an older pillow case since it stains). When applying stand before a mirror, pull the lower lid down just enough to form a pocket and place the medication there. In fact you could do so with any of the 'fake' tear solutions you can buy over the counter...

It may have been a corneal erosion. These generally have the severe foriegn body symptom on waking which may be related to the dry eye/watery eye issues caused by blepharitis as mentioned above.
Various managements for blepharitis include eye lid wipes (called lid care wipes or supranettes) and compresses along with the use of artificial tears, preferably preservative free ones such as optive or celluvisc.
The front surface of the cornea heals pretty quickly but lubricate them in the meantime to help the process.
