Pointless -Wrong final answer yesterday

On Monday's Pointless the final question was. Name a Australian tennis player who was a champion at Wimbledon, either singles or doubes from 1980 onwards.
Well Mark Phillippoussis was their first answer and was called wrong. He won the Junior Men's Doubles with Ben Ellwood in 1994. If I were the contestant I would be after my £6250 winnings.

weecalf - the "we asked 100 people" is the same principle as they use on Family Fortunes - the 100 people in the street don't always come up with the obvious answers, but they have to use the 100 responses they get, for the quiz answers.

getting a bit lost again..were all the films the same couple?

then they would have asked them to name a film with x and y in?
some pairs would have made plenty of films and you'd have to judge which ones people wouldn't think of to get the lower points.

no they gave the couples and the contestants had to name the film

Gollob, if we follow your logic about including the results of Junior matches then we have to include the Under 19 Cricket Internationals and the Under 19 and Under 23 Football Internationals for Cricket and Football questions? Surely the reference to Senior titles is implicit in the question?

I would think the 100 people would have been given the names of the film duos and then ask them to name of any films they appeared in together. Then the contestant has to come up with a correct film name and hope not many of the 100 people gave the same name.

By the way, it's 100 people given 100 seconds, not minutes.

As for the Mark Phillippoussis answer, some of the 100 people may have also given that answer so it wouldn't have been pointless and they wouldn't have won the money.

redford and newman were in two films together so over 100 seconds they name the two of them 100% so if only say 76 could could name BCAND SK and 34 could say the sting how could it be allocated for this prog Im gonna ring the bbc and complain Who will I ask for ?

The question and answer that has annoyed me the most was name countries ending with 'E' which was further qualified with their English names.

One of the answers given on the board was Cote D'Ivoire! Surely its English name is Ivory Coast?

In the situation you mention, contestants would have got 76 points if they had said BCATSK and 34 points if they had said The Sting. Any other correct answer would have been pointless.

If as you say the pair were in no other films together then so what? Only one contestant had the opportunity to select that pair. The object of the game is to select the most obscure answer, not the easy ones.

Understand but those asking the question would have had to go through the twelve couples and ask those 100pepole to name each couples films .The point I was making was this sort of question is not suitable for the format of the show .If they ask 100people one question then it works but not 12 as would have had to been asked .

What we really need to know is how they ask the questions. Perhaps anyone who has been on Pointless can tell us.
