If you have a UTI you need to get a sample of urine to your GP.

It appears that Cranberry juice is great if you drink it regularly for preventing a UTI, however once you have a UTI it will do very little for you.

Get a sample to your GP asap. UTI's can be very distressing!
I used to be plagued by cystitis when I was younger. They say cranberry stops the bacteria sticking to the sides of the bladder. It never worked for me though. The only thing that worked for me was good old fashioned drugs (anti-biotics). Plenty of water won`t hurt though

whats the symptoms of an infection.????
Question Author
i feel i want to wee all the time, but hardly passing any urine, also have a weird sensation when trying to pass it.
Well, cystitis is cystitis and you can`t really tell if it`s caused by an infection unless you go to the docs. When I used to get it (caused by the cold which was really wierd) I used to notice that the urine smelled really strange. That was the first symptom before anything else. I knew what was coming next. Horrible frequent urge to go to the loo and a lot of pain and burning when I did. The sooner it`s caught, the better.
Well Kate, I don't want to worry you but I had a recurring UTI in 2009, that lasted from May to November and no amount of antibiotics would get rid of it. It would go away while I on antibiotics but the infection would return within a few days of me finishing the course. I must have had at least 15 courses of antibiotics! My symptoms included frequent urination, burning sensation when urinating, foul smelling urine, night sweats/chills, loss of appetite and inability to keep anything down and general feeling of being unwell. In the end my GP referred me to a Urologist and long story short, it turned out to be kidney stones (nasty things!). I agree with what others are saying, you need to get a sample of urine to your GP asap so they can determine the cause. Hope you get well soon.

Cymalon is excellent for cystitus, I used to get it a lot when I was younger, I think you can get a flavoured version as well.
Kate, go to your pharmacist and tell them you have cystitis - they will give you some goopy medicine which is a one-off (or a series of foul drinks over a couple of days, depending on what they give you), and should do the trick. Drink lots of water and cranberry juice - but you need to drink the cran juice all the time. If that doesn't do the trick then please go and see your GP.

It worked for me a few months back - burning feeling when I peed, constant feeling of needing to go.
Cymalon alleviates symptoms but doesn't treat the cause.

I had UTI a fortnight ago which resisted Trimethoprim, Nitrofurantoin and Cefalexin. I eventually tried probiotic drinks and that worked wonders. Not all UTIs are bacterial in origin.
Get the dissolvable satches asap kate....

They take the sting out!! X
Repeat of bravejordy, but in my case they could find nothing causing the cystitis. The prof. told me to eat natural yoghurt once a day, drink cranberry juice, one glass twice a day and also prescribed HRT in a very small dose. I got it once more after this and my doctor prescribed antibiotics a small dose to be taken for a month and also a larger dose to follow on for a week. Touch wood I have not had it since but have kept doing what the prof. told me to do. Can't say I like the natural yoghurt very much, but hey, if it works I'll keep taking it.
Friend swears by Robinsons Lemon Barley Water - lots of it. Don't let it run on, better to see your GP.
My sister told me about Robinson's Barley water - she reckons her doctor told her, so just to be sure I take a glass of it to bed with me and drink it throughout the night, when I wake. I don't really think it does anything and as I was a bit doubtful, I asked her if the doc had shares in Robinsons. She said no, but I wonder.
I can remember my gran making it out of the barley corn and it came out pinky and not unpleasant to drink.

thanks for the replies,i got the sachets that night in the 24 hr.tesco and feel a lot better now
I got an infection of the pee recently, never having had one before. Despite drinking cranberry juice and plenty of water (which was my usual routine anyway), it got worse and worse. Horrible. Sample to the GP, antibiotics, it shifted.
