over 55 you can get a rail card also the two of us type if you travel together
No to get a family rfaily card you need a child - needn't be yours so you could 'borow' one before you set off I don't know what the minimum age is though We have got individual senior rail card which gets you 33% off
From my local station into London it's often worth booking a family ticket if there are two of you, for some reason it works out cheaper. Just don't use the kids tickets or give them to someone else. It's worth looking into

Thanks alot everyone for your quick replies and venator for the link
For a family railcard you absolutely NEED a child (max age 15) travelling with you - not just a child's ticket. If the child is not with you you will have to pay for entirely new tickets and possibly a penalty fare. You can 'borrow' a child, and it doesn't have to be the same one each time, but s/he MUST be with you

For a senior railcard you have to be 60, not 55.

You could get a Network railcard - this is valid in London and the South East only though on some routes stretches remarkably far

A few companies have sporadic offers (club55) for the over 55s. Any prof of age will do

In the Midlands there's a Two Together railcard - you would be eligible for one if you live in certain postcode areas. Travel can be nationwide

Note that none of these are 'passes' which give free travel. They are railcards that give discounted travel
There are rail cards that anyone can use , the only stipulation is that you have to travel off peak. In our rail area they are called 'Network Cards' but every area has the same thing under diffrent names , a lot of places call them 'Off Peak' cards or similar.
This is the link to the card for my area but as I said every rail area has the same thing but the name may be diffrent,
