installing a dvd drive
I am trying to install a dvd rom that i have fitted to my pc, im not sure if im doing it correctly. im using windows me, i was told that as soon as i pugged it in windows would find and install it, this is not happening, it has the jumper settings to 'slave' i already have a cd-rom in. i have tried add new hardware in control panel but im still none the wiser, any help would be appreciated - ta Phil

1. You have one hard drive, it is connected to IDE slot 1 on the mobo and set to master. it is the only drive on that cable.
2. you have a cd-rom drive, it is connected to IDE slot 2 on the mobo and set to master. it is one of two drives on that cable.
3. you have a dvd-rom drive, it is connected to IDE slot 2 on the mobo and set to slave. it is one of two drives on that cable.
4. you have checked that all the cables are connected so that pin 1 (the side of the cable with the red stripe) is connected closest to the power connector.
5. you have connected the power supply to each drive.
When the system boots you should be able to read what devices are found on the IDE bus. is the hard drive, cd and dvd shown?
If yes try windows again to see if the drives appear.
