Why did the government just restrict the VAT to pasties. Wouldn't the tax be more suitable if put onto fish and chips which are a main cause of obesity.?

Methyl, try your supermarket. They sell ready to use pastry. Chilled or frozen.

methyl, I think if you want fluffy pastry your choice should be flaky pastry. However shortcrust pastry makes a perfectly acceptable pasty.

methyl, lean beef, (kidney if liked) potato, onion, turnip, carrot (all chopped) salt, pepper. Swede can be used if liked. I tend to cook the filling with a little water and half a beef stock cube, cool then make up the pasties. Brush with beaten egg. Cook as advised on pastry instructions. If filling not pre-cooked cooking time longer at lower heat.
