Am I correct in thinking that if any vehicle gets a new engine fitted the odometer mileage must be reset to zero?

If it is Japanese it(the vehicle) has to be shipped back to the motherland for the reset.
I have the details here: http://jevic.co.jp/en...ter-verification.html

don't be rediculous, the only time it is permissable to set an odometer is when it is replaced. eg if it breaks showing 96786 then he new one should be set thus. Why would replacing an engine mean resetting? The odometer is for the whole car. The milage at the time of replacement should be noted on the bill for information but that's all.
