Wine Of The Week

Co-op Fairtrade Gran Reserva Argentine Malbec 2011.
Historically, Argentina have kept the majority of their vinicultural produce to themselves but in recent years more and more of their wines are making their way over here, much to winelovers' delight.
A vast proportion of the areas dedicated to wine cultivation are dry and arid with low rain and humidity, thus necessitating irrigation from the Andean range thaw. Soil is deep and low in organic matter and it is a combination of these factors which render this region an oasis for good quality wine cultivation.
The Gran Reserva Malbec is a prime example of Argentine wine production at its very best. Deep crimson in colour, it is full-bodied, rich and sumptuous with surprisingly soft tannins. Aromas of toasty red fruits give way to a palate of dark red cherries, dark plums and a hint of spicyness - characteristics which fall somewhere between a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot. Excellent with roasts and charcoal grills.
Available for the offer price of £6.39 (down from £7.99).
