How many are there meant to be sinc? I thought it was just THE Bradshaw's Guide!
Question Author
Bradshaw goes back a long way and there seem to be various incarnations of it.
He did say at the beginning of the series, I can't remember, but I know it is an early one.
michael uses the extremely rare bradshaws tourist guide it was lent to him
for the purpose of making the series
bradshaws yearly railway guides contain no tourist info they are timetables and advertising
He occasionally uses a later version if it includes a place he wants to visit and it wasn't mentioned in the original.
It does look pretty fragile (& looks like he's always reading the entries from the same page). Perhaps he's not allowed to turn the pages!
bradshaws yearly guides are timetables i have ten on my shelf
goggle bradshaws tourist handbook there are one or two on amazon for around 30 quid
when he's on TV they sometimes show a close up of a page like this
http://tottenham-summ...ws_tottenham_page.jpg
is this taken from a later book, imagcq or some other publication ?
that looks like a page from from the tourist handbook
Bradshaw published Tourist Guides as well as railway timetables. These went through many editions as content was revised to keep up to date.
According to this http://www.waterstone...&typeAheadFormSubmit= Michael Portillo mostly used the 1866 edition, but for those railways not then built, he used later editions.
population of tottenham on the page posted 13000 i goggled that figure and its circa 1860 bradshaws first is 1866 i believe
Thanks, imagcq, it's an interesting subject.
it turns out that bradshaws tourist handbook is in four volumes
perhaps this explains the different look to the book
If you look on amazon you can find a reprint of the 1866 guide.

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
VHG - I bought my husband this from Amazon costs £7.50 and he has read it from cover to cover as he followed the TV series. Its well worth buying, very good value, but one thing to note - the print is a little small.
I hope he is going to do another series.

The things I learnt about the different towns, villages and the history's of some of stories in the UK was amazing.
Absolutely brilliant series - can't wait until its on again ........ hope they do a new series as it was very very popular. BBC please note!!
