the Eggheads all agreed in was 1935 but I think it was first sold in 1938, certainly not 1945

Certainly according to German websites (more likely to be accurate) the Beetle was produced first in 1938, but they didn't sell many until 1945.

The question wasn't when it was first produced, but something like when it first became mass produced and exported, which I thought was after the war.

they certainly didn't export many to UK in 1945 or any other countries
