it asked who wrote the song. The answer being Cohen and I wondered who had the original hit.
I saw that show too on Challenge earlier. Do you get an extra £50,000 for winning the 100? The contestant was only on £5,500 when he won, yet the prize money was £55,500
The definitive version is Jeff Buckley's, the cool version is Leonard Cohen's, the 'to be avoided at all costs' versions are all the others!
I hated the fact that it was hi-jacked by the X Factor, and although I think Alexandra Burke has a good voice, she murdered it!
It's like 'Someone Like You' / 'I Will Always love You' / 'Your Song' etc., the song is so strong that it's almost impossible to make a lousy version of it, although quite a few have tried very very hard!!!!
Hallelujah, was written and sung by Leonard Cohen in 1984 on Various Positions. The version Alexandra Burke sang was written by Cohen in 1988 and included on Live In Concert 1994.
