I have been offered a 6 month perm job. The start date is 21 May. The thing is, I have seen other perm roles that I like that also suit my skills. I am tempted to apply but I fear that I attend the interview and get the job once the job that I have begins. Then it would be like giving a months notice or leaving part way withing the first few weeks of my new job that I got after months of temping around.
Is it wise to apply for the other roles that I feel also suit me or just settle with this job that I already have despite being only 6 month ? My manager said upon offering me the role that she can't guarantee that role will extend further.
When you start applying for other perm jobs in 4 or 5 months' time, you'll come across as a much better person because of your full-time work experience in this one.
Problem is, I'm liaising with the hiring manager as she is keeping me updated with the paper work, references and CRB etc. so everything is being processed. I would just feel bad as after everything is set up ready to go, she will get the news that im going to interviews and may end up in another job as the end result.
You have been offered a long term temp post, if the company changes their mind you can be dispensed with at any time. Be loyal to yourself, your search for a permanent position starts now. They offer no guarantees and neither should you, do what you think is best for you, they can get another temp at short notice so you are not leaving them in the lurch and if they are a good company, will wish you well.
A 6 month permanent job ? a job that is only for 6 months is NOT permanent it is temporary . Do you mean you have been offered a 6 month placement in a specific position ?
I find it hard to understand what you are saying , the first paragraph does not make sense .
Well but we can't tell you what you want, which is the most important bit of this. Go and sit down quietly, maybe draw up a pros and cons list and think about what you want out of your life...now, in six months, in a year, in five years. Which actions now will get you nearer to where you want to be?
As others have said, a 6 month permanent job is not permanent - you could be dispensed with by just giving you the notice period. If you want them to put their money where their mouth is, you require a fixed-term contract of six months. These are rarer than rocking-horse manure.
I understand your feelings about not letting people down, but just think about whether the company would feel the ame way. If circumstances change, you will be out of work.
By all means take the job but continue to keep searching for a proper full-time contract.
Many of this have done as you are having to do; the 6 month contract may end up being longer-term anyway.
