We received a phone call today from a friend who has just had these fitted. The rep asked him if he could tell him of any people who could benefit from, the main requirement being a South facing roof of a minimum size . Frank was a bit reluctant to give names but agreed to let people know and pass on the phone number of the rep.It seems a good deal, you don't pay anything, they install, insure and maintain them for the next 25yrs. You get electricity during the day and they sell any extra back to the Grid. As I said it seems a good deal but is it as good as it sounds?

if they are free and there are not payments to be made, and you are not moving, you have nothing to lose really

if you intend to move then make sure you do all your homework first
Why not get your own put up so you get the energy and any profit yourself...I should think they become a plus point on resale that way
They are expensive to install, difficult to maintain and don't last forever.

As always, there will be something better on the market soon.
Worth checking whether they are registered installers at this website and asking anther company for a comparison quote. There must be more to this than they have explained as these systems usually cost between £3k and £10k to install. eg How much electricity do you get during the day? Are you tied into buying the remainder of your electricity form them at higher rates?

Check them out here

If you do go for the 'free' panels you won't benefit much if your house is empty during the day. The electricity can't be stored so you'd need to set your washing machine etc to come on during the day.
i thought solar power was still 'there' even at night...just isnt strong...?
