I have been watching the Olympic torch relayfrom the West Country the last couple of days. Wouldn't it have looked better if the car following the torch bearers had been a British made car, instead of a BMW ?

I know that WW2 was a long time ago, and we all friends now, as Simon Cole reminded us recently but I just think it might have given a better impression of modern Britain if the car hadn't been made from melted-down
Messerschmitts.

You've got something there mikey. I think this country tends to undersell itself sometimes.

I think so too. I am the last person that could be described as an ardent Royalist but you never see Liz or Phil the Greek riding around in a BMW !
I think its coz BMW are a sponsor for the relay
which made in britain car would you have liked, then?
It's not as bad as the 60s "I'm backing Britain" campaign t-shirts that were mostly made abroad.

So why can't a British company sponsor the bloody thing ?
The Queen's German, of course - name changed to Windsor from Saxe Coburg Gotha because of the war.

Not sure S C G was her family name, though - Queen Victoria asked what it was, and the College of Heralds or someone similar said it was Wettin, which she didn't like.
Specially if your initial is S......
A Jaguar would be nice, I know they are Indian owned but they are British built.
LOL shoota!
Wasn't Victoria from the house of Hanover?

I thought Albert brought in the SHG thing.
They should have used a Caterham, in order to highlight British engineering and how our wonderful weather can be appreciated whilst driving said car.
I watched the torch relay on line for a long time. The problem was that there were quite a few losses of picture, especially coming into Torquay, which is near where I live. I was quite dissappointed about that. I enjoyed the programme though, and was full of admiration for the torch bearers
They could have used a Nissan or a Honda to be more patriotic.

and was full of admiration for the torch bearers

Some of those torch bearers are selling their torches on ebay for ridiculous amounts the day after they were "honoured". Starting Prices of £1500+

Talk about cashing in?

MASS 1961 Not all the torch bearers are selling their torches on Ebay. Its only the odd few, and some are donating any money made to charity. With 8000 torches, I would think that the market would be flooded if they all decided to sell.
What is so wrong about selling these torches on E-bay, when some are being sold to raise money for a charity.?
