....Ok here's the crack
I signed up to a Dating Website that I know a few of my friends use and now I'm starting to feel more at ease there. My problem is when I go to message someone I'd like to get to know I CANNOT for the life of me think of anything to say thats cool/casual/likely to get a response....any suggestions?

Agree with Barmaid! I said as much in my profile about being sick of reading the obvious LOL.
Also agree that the ones that made me laugh got the response from me.
I didn't keep my message simple (sorry Tinkerbell LOL). I figured if I had a little to say about several of my interests that that was more likely to spark a conversation than the pair of us...

DT the wine part could be problematic...see nungate for further details.
I've had a few like that too TOWIE, instant scramble for the delete button.
Yeah there is BM - had a run in with one recently as he knows a girl i know and he said don't tell her about me...i wanted to know what he had to hide...glad she told me. Aww he's a sweetie though

Also think what attracts you in a profile. I had my best fun when I was slightly witty in a profile. The ones that used to bore me to tears were the ones that said "single bloke, 43, likes cosy evenings in, movies and hates cruelty to children and animals". I used to think "doesn't EVERYONE hate cruelty to children and animals? Is your specialist subject the bleedin obvious?" It tells you absolutely nothing, apart from the fact that the most interesting thing he can think of to say about himself is that he likes movies. The ones that made me laugh were the ones who would get a response from me.
"wanted, one good looking female who eats like a horse and drinks Guinness like a ship refuelling. Loves sex and getting herself stuck in unusual positions, usually when she is trying to multi-task which is when the accidents happen. Rich sense of humour required, experience in the building trade a benefit."

I didn't keep my message simple (sorry Tinkerbell LOL). I figured if I had a little to say about several of my interests that that was more likely to spark a conversation than the pair of us sending stifled messages. At least the guy had several options to choose from as openers - he could delete as appropriate of his interests if you like.
I also felt that yes, people will look at your profile picture and make a decision from there as to whether they're interested, but the only decsion they're making from that (if they're not a player) is whether to open your profile and read what you have to say. Their next decision will be based on those two.
There's nothing worse than seeing a hottie profile and reading, yet again, that he likes long walks on the beach and cosy nights in - 1 way ticket to yawnsville and move swiftly on LOL.
