Has anyone a recipe for making those very thin chips as in Kentucky fried chicken and Mac ds please. I have to do them in oven as I dont have a fryer.Someone told me to soak in salt water before boiling. Anyway, your help would be much appreciated. Than you.
I don't think you will ever get the same effect in an oven when you start at hime from a potato McCain thin fries are pretty good if you only have an oven.
The soaking, boiling thing is confusing me for thin cut chips. Blanching is OK for chunky chips but v risky for skinny French fries as you could end up with an over cooked water-logged chip.
If you have a large saucepan or deep saute pan then you can fry chips, just make sure you keep an eye on them.
I would soak them in plain water for a short while before you fry them. Dont even think about doing them in the oven - you can use any pan to fry them so long as you keep your eye on them. The main thing is to make sure that after soaking them, they are completely dry. Use either a clean tea towel, or lots of kitchen paper to make them dry, then fry them in hot oil till golden. Soaking them first removes the starch, so they shouldn't stick together.
Thank you so much for your useful answers. I couldnt get back to puter, so I soaked the thinly cut chips in cold salted water for a few hours, then I rinsed them. Then i blanched them. Then I used 1 dessert spoon of olive oil, sprinkled with sea salt, placed them on pre heated oventray, on high till brown. They were lovely!
