Windows XP wont download/install Updates

Hi, Was having problems with my pc so decided to reboot. Now im still stuck with Service pack 1. Automatic updates are turned on but nothing happens!!
When i go on the windows update site, it comes up with the message, you may not be able view this site.It wont let me download service pack 2.
HELP..before computer goes into the neighbours garden!

Not sure but have you validated Windows?

Why not go for Servicepack 3 straight away?

Wildwood I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you can download SP3 first.
I think you've gotta download SP2 first, then you've gotta go through it all again and then download SP3 .....

You can install SP3 straight away, no need to install SP2 at all.

Many thanks for all your responses.Tried SlackAlice's link first, but wouldnt let me download. Was just about to give up, when i tried ChuckFickens link...success got service pack 3 and loads of updates.
