I have been having accupuncture weekly for a couple of months now, and I do not see any difference in my health issues, I was told they thought they could help me. I feel ready to give up.

My lady is Chinese you just expect them to be better ?
any therapist who is qualified in their field regardless of race, should be no better qualified than the other .But raport is important.
I originally had acupuncture to give up smoking about 30 years ago, and it worked after only one treatment. More recently I have been having treatment over the past six years on and off for various minor aches and pains, and to promote general well being and mental calm, especially through the menopause. It works for me, although the results don't always become apparent immediately. I notice when I haven't been for a while, and feel better for going
guille I mentioned that she was Chinese as weren't they supposed to have invented it?
Same here Sheena. I spent 10 years doing Swedish massage so I went twice a year...not for any particular pain but it kept my hands and shoulders supple and pain free.
yes, but anyone who wants to learn and qualify can perfect the technique.
I'm rubbish at irony :-(
I have a very good relationship with my acupuncturist and if she does something I don't understand or is new, I ask and she explains. I do usually feel an initial sensation with the needles, sometimes left in for several minutes, and sometimes inserted only briefly. If there is no sensation I say so, and she makes a small adjustment.
Like hell you are Crafty!!! ;-)
Gness I agree that the relationship with the practitioner is important, and I would not expect acupuncture to be able to cure an acute medical condition, such as kidney disease, for example. I do find it very effective in dealing with things like skin conditions which can be aggravated by stress and in complementing conventional treatments for pain. (probably why it may be referred to as complementary medicine!)
Mine was on the NHS via a physiotherapist. My friend pays for hers privately via a specialised clinic for her health condition. As I say the first person really helped, it felt like it was working when she put the needles in (placebo or not) the second person seemed less confident in the job and choose a different approach. If it was a placebo effect I wish to have it every day for the rest of my life because the pain is sometimes unbearable!

I do know that my chinese lady is genuine as there are so many charlatons out there and I have met afew, she truly has wanted to get me better, but I think after all this input that Acupuncture is more about helping with pain.
I agree Tamaris but let us know how you are getting on. x

To get to the point, the one time that I had it, in Hong Kong with a Chinese acupuncturist, it did me little good.....
Used it as a follow up to knee trouble after a ski accident. The old chap was brilliant and the pain left the area never to returrn.
